The comment by erictraut sums up the attitude of MS / Pyright in general: Python is too permissive and should be written more like "C, C++, JavaScript, TypeScript, Java, C#, Basic, Julia, etc"; rather than attempt to improve support for its dynamic nature, Pyright is being written to type-check a different language.
