Schneier on Security: Here Comes Everybody Review

http://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2008/11/here_comes_ever.html

This book suggests that organisations exist to amortise transaction costs (Coase's theorem), but will a) collapse if the internal bureaucracy gets too cumbersome (Coase's ceiling) and b) (this is the new bit) not even form if the transaction costs of individual interactions are sufficiently low (Coase's floor).

http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Corinthians%2013;&version=9;

As a rampant atheist it feels weird to bookmark the bible, but this couldn't be more pretty if I were remotely religious. Also, it's very funny to read all the translations except the KJV call it "love" rather than "charity"

Cloud computing is a trap, warns GNU founder |

http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2008/sep/29/cloud.computing.richard.stallman

The Guardian implies that RMS agrees with Larry Ellison about cloud computing. In fact, they have opposing views. Larry Ellison isn't complaining about the concept (offsite services), he's complaining about the language ("we already did all this before cloud computing came along"). RMS is complaining about the concept.

"[L]earning how to think really means learning how to exercise some control over how and what you think. It means being conscious and aware enough to choose what you pay attention to and to choose how you construct meaning from experience. Because if you cannot exercise this kind of choice in adult life, you will be totally hosed."
